Lenovo Ryzen 5 vs Intel Core i5: Which Offers Better Value?
Compare Lenovo Ryzen 5 and Intel Core i5 laptops, performance, battery life and Sri Lankan prices to find the better value for your needs.

Updated: 13 October 2026
If you are comparing a Lenovo Ryzen 5 laptop with a Lenovo Intel Core i5 laptop, neither processor is automatically better. A Ryzen 5 7530U can offer excellent everyday value, while a Core i5-1335U may feel faster in lighter tasks. However, the cheaper Ryzen 5 7520U is noticeably weaker than both.
The best choice depends on the complete processor number, RAM, graphics, cooling and final Sri Lankan price, not simply the Ryzen 5 or Core i5 badge.
The quick answer: Ryzen 5 or Core i5?
For studying, office work and normal programming, choose the laptop that gives you 16GB RAM, a good IPS screen and a reliable warranty at the lower price. The difference between two similar processors will often matter less than the difference between 8GB and 16GB RAM.
Ryzen 5 7530U and Intel Core i5-1335U laptops are reasonably close competitors. Intel generally has stronger performance in short, everyday tasks, while the Ryzen chip remains a capable and often affordable option for multitasking.
Ryzen 5 7520U is different. It is an entry-level 4-core processor despite carrying the Ryzen 5 and 7000-series names. Buy it only when the complete laptop is considerably cheaper.
For AutoCAD, video editing or gaming, stop comparing processor badges first. A dedicated graphics card such as an RTX 3050 will make a much bigger difference.
Local truth: In Sri Lanka, a well-configured Ryzen 5 laptop can be better value than an 8GB Core i5 laptop. However, you must confirm that the processor model and warranty are genuine.
Why the exact processor number matters
“Ryzen 5” and “Core i5” describe large processor families. Two laptops with the same badge can deliver very different performance.
Processor | Cores and threads | Graphics | Best suited for |
Ryzen 5 7520U | 4 cores, 8 threads | Radeon 610M | Basic study and office work |
Ryzen 5 7530U | 6 cores, 12 threads | Radeon Vega 7 | Multitasking, coding and light creative work |
Core i5-1335U | 10 cores, 12 threads | Iris Xe eligible | Office work, coding and light editing |
Core 5 210H | 8 cores, 12 threads | Intel integrated graphics | Heavier CPU work when plugged in |
Core i5-12450HX | 8 cores, 12 threads | Usually paired with dedicated graphics | Gaming, CAD and editing |
According to AMD’s official specifications, the Ryzen 5 7530U has six cores and twelve threads. The cheaper Ryzen 5 7520U has four cores, eight threads and much weaker Radeon 610M graphics.
There is another naming trap. The processor in the current Lenovo V15 G5 IRL listing is officially called Intel Core 5 processor 210H, not Core i5-210H. It is a newer naming system, so you should not compare it with a Core i5 using the name alone.
Before buying, search the full processor number. Never accept “latest Ryzen 5” or “new Core i5” as enough information.
Performance, graphics, battery life and heat
For Chrome, Word, Zoom, accounting software and assignments, Ryzen 5 7530U and Core i5-1335U are both fast enough when supported by sufficient RAM and an SSD.
Intel may feel slightly quicker when opening programs or completing short tasks. Ryzen 5 7530U remains strong when several applications are running, although real performance changes with the laptop’s cooling and power settings.
Integrated graphics also depend on memory. Intel Iris Xe performs best with the correct dual-channel RAM configuration. A laptop using one memory channel may deliver weaker graphics than its advertisement suggests.
The Ryzen 5 7520U’s Radeon 610M is suitable for videos and basic applications, but it is not a good choice for serious gaming or 3D work. Neither Radeon 610M nor normal Intel integrated graphics should be treated as a replacement for an RTX graphics card.
U-series processors usually make more sense during power cuts because they use less power. H-series and HX-series processors can be faster, but they normally create more heat and reduce battery life under heavy use.
In Sri Lanka’s warm weather, keep the cooling vents clear and avoid using the laptop on a bed. Even a powerful processor can slow down when a thin laptop becomes too hot.
Which offers better value at Sri Lankan prices?
Sri Lankan laptop prices move with supplier costs, the USD/LKR rate, taxes and available stock. You should therefore compare the current cash price, card price and instalment total, instead of relying on an old price from a Facebook advertisement.
At the time of checking, SellX did not have a new Lenovo Ryzen 5 laptop in its searchable inventory. That means it would be misleading to invent a direct current price comparison.
The available Lenovo V15 G5 IRL was listed at Rs. 295,900 cash with 8GB RAM, a 512GB SSD, DOS and a one-year manufacturer warranty. The listing states that the price includes taxes.
However, the Lenovo LOQ Essential was Rs. 323,900, which is only Rs. 28,000 more. It includes 16GB RAM, Windows 11 and RTX 3050 graphics, making it far better value for gaming, CAD and video editing. The trade-off is greater weight, more heat and shorter battery life.

Which Lenovo should you choose?
If you are a student: Choose Ryzen 5 7530U or a modern Core i5 U-series laptop with 16GB RAM. If it has only 8GB, confirm that the RAM can be upgraded.
For office work: Either processor is enough. Give more importance to the keyboard, IPS screen, battery, weight and warranty.
For programming: Aim for 16GB RAM and a six-core or better processor. Ryzen 5 7530U and Core i5-1335U are both sensible choices.
For AutoCAD, engineering or editing: Choose a laptop with dedicated graphics if your software uses 3D models or GPU acceleration. An RTX-equipped Core i5 laptop can easily beat a Ryzen 5 laptop using only integrated graphics.
For gaming: The graphics card matters more than the Ryzen-versus-Intel question. Do not buy a Radeon 610M laptop expecting smooth modern gaming.
Local buyer discussions also show confusion about who handles Lenovo warranty claims in Sri Lanka. Some users report successful service, while others describe difficulty with imported models. These are individual experiences, but they underline one important rule: get the warranty handler’s name in writing.
Final verdict and check-before-buy guide
Ryzen 5 offers better value when you are comparing a Ryzen 5 7530U laptop with a similar Core i5 model and the Ryzen version is cheaper or includes more RAM. Intel Core i5 offers better value when the price difference is small and the Intel laptop provides stronger performance, a better screen or a better overall configuration.
Avoid choosing Ryzen 5 7520U simply because “7000 series” sounds new. Also avoid paying extra for a Core i5 laptop that still has 8GB soldered RAM, a poor TN screen or unclear warranty coverage.
Before paying, check:
- The full processor number, not only Ryzen 5 or Core i5
- Whether the laptop has 16GB RAM or upgradeable memory
- The screen type, operating system and battery capacity
- The serial number, sealed condition and written warranty
- The final cash, card or instalment price
FAQs
Is Ryzen 5 better than Core i5 for students? Not automatically. Ryzen 5 7530U is a good student processor, but 16GB RAM and battery life may matter more.
