Lenovo V15 vs IdeaPad: Which Budget Laptop Should You Choose?

Compare Lenovo V15 and IdeaPad laptops for Sri Lankan buyers. Check screens, RAM upgrades, battery evidence, local prices and warranty before choosing.

Choose a Lenovo V15 when its exact configuration offers better value, replaceable RAM or the connections you need. Choose an IdeaPad when its screen and everyday features justify the price. Neither range is automatically better.

For Sri Lankan buyers, the real difficulty is comparing what you receive for your money. Two laptops advertised as “Lenovo Core i5” can have different screens, memory limits and warranty coverage.

This guide focuses on the Lenovo V15 G5 IRL and IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH10, with warnings about older models. It draws on manufacturer specifications, local listings and published testing; it is not a hands-on review.

1. What Is the Difference Between Lenovo V15 and IdeaPad?

The most useful differences are in the exact configuration—not the name on the lid.

For example, the V15 G5 IRL includes wired Ethernet and two replaceable memory slots. The IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH10 offers a taller screen option and room for a second SSD.

These are platform specifications, so individual units may differ. Check the complete model number against Lenovo’s V15 specifications or IdeaPad specifications.

Before buying: Request the full model number and specifications in writing.

2. Which Has the Better Screen and Keyboard?

A confirmed IPS configuration is usually the better starting point for comfortable everyday viewing. However, do not assume every IdeaPad has IPS or every V15 has a poorer screen.

“Full HD” describes resolution, not panel quality. A TN screen can change noticeably when you tilt the lid or view it from the side; IPS generally maintains more consistent viewing angles.

The IdeaPad’s 1920×1200 option provides more vertical workspace than a 1920×1080 display. That helps when reading lecture notes, working on spreadsheets or viewing long documents.

For design work, check colour coverage separately. IPS alone does not guarantee accurate colours for professional photo editing.

If you’re a student: A comfortable screen and keyboard may matter more each day than paying extra for a faster processor.

Try the actual keyboard, inspect the hinges and confirm backlighting. There is insufficient evidence here to declare either entire range more durable.

3. Is 8GB RAM Enough, and Can You Upgrade It?

8GB can handle lighter browsing, documents and basic study tasks. For heavier multitasking, 16GB is a more comfortable buying target.

An online lecture, browser tabs, PDFs and office applications share that memory. Buying an i7 does not remove the limitations of insufficient RAM.

The V15 G5 IRL has replaceable memory. The IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH10 also offers an upgrade route, although its layout depends on the configuration.

Be careful with older stock: IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH8 and V15 G4 AMN models have soldered RAM without upgrade slots. An 8GB version cannot receive a normal RAM upgrade. See Lenovo’s IdeaPad 15IRH8 specifications and V15 G4 AMN specifications.

For IT degrees, check whether your modules require virtual machines. Engineering students should confirm their actual CAD applications and project requirements.

Avoid these mistakes:

  • Assuming every laptop supports RAM upgrades.
  • Choosing an i7 while overlooking memory and screen quality.
  • Expecting an H-series processor to make integrated graphics suitable for demanding games.

Get an upgrade quotation before deciding that buying 8GB now saves money.

4. Which Lasts Longer on Battery and Handles Heat Better?

There is no reliable range-wide winner. Battery life depends on the processor, battery capacity, screen, settings and applications.

One independent V15 Gen 5 test recorded 6 hours 13 minutes of video playback, using a Core 7 240H configuration. That is useful evidence for the tested machine, not a guarantee for a different local unit. See LaptopMedia’s testing.

Video calls and demanding work can drain the battery faster than reading documents. Do not plan a full university day around an advertised maximum.

In a warm room without air conditioning, use a hard surface and keep vents clear. Avoid bedding during heavy work.

Before buying: Consider charging access during lectures or power interruptions, and look for testing of the exact configuration.

5. What Should You Pay in Sri Lanka?

The following local catalogue prices were checked on 27 October 2026. Treat them as reference points and reconfirm the complete configuration before ordering.

Model listing

RAM

Advertised price

Lenovo V15 G5 IRL

8GB

Rs.295,900

IdeaPad Slim 3 15IRH10, i7-13620H

16GB

Rs.314,900

These are different configurations, not a matched performance comparison. The reviewed listings also need clarification of the V15 processor naming and the IdeaPad storage capacity.

The Rs.19,000 difference therefore deserves investigation rather than an automatic recommendation.

Calculate the complete cost: laptop + necessary upgrades + licensed Windows if needed + delivery + payment charges.

A DOS laptop does not include a Windows licence simply because Windows can be installed. Compare instalment offers using the total payable.

Grey imports are not automatically counterfeit, but overseas warranty coverage needs checking. Confirm service eligibility in Sri Lanka, who handles repairs, and whether parts, labour, battery and charger have different terms.

For wider budget context, compare current laptop prices in Sri Lanka.

6. Which Laptop Should You Choose?

Your priority

What to prioritise

Replaceable RAM and wired networking

V15 G5 IRL

More vertical space for documents

A confirmed WUXGA IPS IdeaPad

University and office multitasking

16GB RAM and a comfortable screen

Tight budget

Lowest complete cost with suitable specifications

Demanding gaming or 3D work

Graphics hardware matched to your applications

Before paying, check:

  • Complete model and processor.
  • TN or IPS screen.
  • RAM capacity and upgrade options.
  • Storage capacity and Windows licence.
  • Written warranty coverage.
  • Final cash, card or instalment total.

Buy the configuration that fits your work and budget. A suitable V15 can be better value than an unsuitable IdeaPad, while a better-equipped IdeaPad can justify paying more.
